The most decorated biography of the five, attached to the least specific rideshare page. Her register records Portuguese alongside Spanish — a language her own biography never mentions. Fourteen years at the Texas bar; her page's account of insurance is that coverage "can depend on" the driver's app status.

The bar record

We read Laura Ramos James in the State Bar of Texas Find a Lawyer directory — the same register behind every Houston and Dallas listing on this site. The practice, school, fee and language rows are supplied by the lawyer; the Bar publishes them without verifying them, and prints in words where a lawyer has supplied nothing.

This listing carries a dash on discipline, and the reason is ours, not the register’s. Texas does answer — the Houston and Dallas listings on this same page all carry No Public Disciplinary History from the State Bar. The record supplied to us for this lawyer stops before that block, and texasbar.com refuses our connection from this network, so we could not read it ourselves. What we do have is the regulator’s status line: Eligible to Practice in Texas. That is a licence check. It is not a discipline check, and we are not going to let one stand in for the other. The dash means we do not have it, which is exactly what it has always meant here. A second State Bar record for this lawyer has since been read, on 27 August 2026, and it does not carry the disciplinary block either — nor the courts-of-admittance block. Twelve of the fourteen Austin records print both. These two do not, and we cannot tell you whether that is the register or the way these two records render. So the dash stands.

These nine were held once, and the hold is why this listing exists in the form it does. Nine Austin lawyers — this one among them — first reached us with an entry from austinbar.org, the Austin Bar Association’s find-a-lawyer: a voluntary membership directory with no disciplinary field of any kind. We did not publish them. The State Bar of Texas records have since been supplied, and the comparison settled the question: all nine read No Public Disciplinary History — the field the directory does not have — and on top of that, three of the nine licence dates in the directory were wrong and four addresses disagreed, with the regulator matching the lawyer’s own website on three of them. The wait produced a better record, not merely a slower one.

What the record shows

Her State Bar record lists language assistance in Spanish and Portuguese. Her biography, which runs to several hundred words on awards, committees and publications, mentions neither. The register is the only place on the public record where the Portuguese appears — and language is among the most practically useful things a prospective client can know.Verified

The firm’s rideshare page gives no coverage tiers, no dollar figures and no statute. Its account is that coverage can depend on whether the driver was logged in, on the way to pick up a rider, or had a passenger in the car. That is correct and it is the whole of it. Another page in this city at least attempts the numbers.Verified

It does state the Texas two-year limitation period and, unusually, warns that evidence must be preserved from day one. Both are right.Verified

Her register records a firm of two to five, personal injury litigation as the only practice area, and a Baylor J.D. Her biography says she graduated Baylor with honours, which the register does not record either way.Verified

What the firm says

She says she was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for five consecutive years and holds lifetime membership in the Million and Multi-Million Advocates Forums.Reported

She says she was named a Changemaker by Austin Woman magazine, won that magazine’s Woman’s Way Award in 2023 and an Advocacy and Activism award from the Latina Foundation.Reported

She says she is admitted in all Texas state courts and the federal Southern and Western Districts, and is a two-time Amazon best-selling contributing author. The courts-of-admittance field on her register was not supplied to us.Reported

ramosjames.com — the thinnest rideshare page of the five: no coverage tiers, no figures, no statute cited; returns 200 from our network
This is the firm’s own marketing. It shows they hold themselves out as taking rideshare cases — it is not evidence that they have run one, and we have not verified any rideshare case they have handled.

What we haven’t checked

Not established. Her disciplinary history. The State Bar record supplied stops before the public disciplinary block, and texasbar.com refuses our connection. Her status reads Eligible to Practice in Texas — a licence check, not a discipline check. Her federal admissions, and every award on her biography, none of which a regulator confers. We have not reviewed court records for case outcomes, we print no settlement or verdict figures, and we have no basis for judging quality of representation. A bar check is a floor, not a ranking.
