At four years he is the newest lawyer in this city, and his register carries a practice area nobody else on the site has: Ethics-Legal Malpractice — cases against other lawyers. His rideshare page is one of the two most careful in Austin, and it numbers the coverage periods differently from the other one.

The bar record

We read Alex J. Matthews in the State Bar of Texas Find a Lawyer directory — the same register behind every Houston, Dallas and Austin listing on this site. The practice, school, fee and language rows are supplied by the lawyer; the Bar publishes them without verifying them, and prints in words where a lawyer has supplied nothing.

Texas answers, and asks more than anyone else. The State Bar prints No Public Disciplinary History as a sentence — not a blank like Washington, not a missing field like Pennsylvania. And it asks about eight things no other register on this site asks about at once: practice areas, law school, fee options, languages, other states, courts of admittance, firm size and services provided. Where a lawyer declines, it prints the refusal in wordsNone Reported By Attorney — so you can tell a question nobody asked from one nobody answered. One record in this city says that five times.

These nine were held once, and the hold is why this listing exists in the form it does. Nine Austin lawyers — this one among them — first reached us with an entry from austinbar.org, the Austin Bar Association’s find-a-lawyer: a voluntary membership directory with no disciplinary field of any kind. We did not publish them. The State Bar of Texas records have since been supplied, and the comparison settled the question: all nine read No Public Disciplinary History — the field the directory does not have — and on top of that, three of the nine licence dates in the directory were wrong and four addresses disagreed, with the regulator matching the lawyer’s own website on three of them. The wait produced a better record, not merely a slower one.

What the record shows

His practice areas read Ethics-Legal Malpractice and Litigation: Personal Injury. Across two hundred and twenty-eight listings he is the only lawyer with the ethics and legal-malpractice entry — work that means suing other lawyers, and a field Texas records that most registers on this site do not offer at all.Verified

His rideshare page and Anselmo Aguirre’s number the coverage periods differently. Matthews’s Period 1 is App Off — driver’s personal insurance only; his Period 2 is app on with no ride accepted, at $50,000/$100,000/$25,000; his Period 3 is a ride accepted or passenger aboard, at $1,000,000. Aguirre’s page calls that middle tier Period 1. Both are describing the same statute and the same dollar figures. Only the labels move. We fetched both pages on 27 August 2026.Verified

That is worth a reader’s attention: if you compare two Austin firms’ rideshare pages and they disagree about what “Period 1” means, neither is necessarily wrong — the numbering is not statutory. The dollar amounts are. A third firm here avoids the problem by saying driving mode and matched mode instead.Verified

His page also cites Texas Civil Practice & Remedies Code §16.003 for the two-year limitation period and the Occupations Code for the transportation-network-company framework. Confirmed live.Verified

Two facts we were first given about him were wrong. The association directory gave his licence date as 15 November 2021 and his address as 201 W 5th Street. The State Bar of Texas records 12 November 2021 and 3724 Executive Center Drive, Suite 120 — and his own firm website gives the Executive Center address. On both points the regulator and the lawyer agree, and the directory is the outlier.Verified

The register gives a St. Mary’s University J.D. in August 2020 against a November 2021 licence — fifteen months. As with Aguirre, the register records both dates and offers no explanation, and neither do we.Verified

What the firm says

He says the firm takes personal injury and professional-responsibility matters. The register’s two practice areas match that description.Reported

The firm offers consultations in Spanish; the register lists Spanish and English under language assistance.Reported

Rideshare

Rideshare content — checked 27 Aug 2026
Uber & Lyft
bakermatthews.com — a rideshare page that sets out all three coverage periods with dollar figures and cites §16.003. Its Period 1 is the driver’s app being OFF, which is not how the other statute-citing page in this city numbers them. Confirmed live
This is the firm’s own marketing. It shows they hold themselves out as taking rideshare cases — it is not evidence that they have run one, and we have not verified any rideshare case they have handled.

What we haven’t checked

Not established. Four years of practice is a thin public record by design — there is simply less to check. His firm’s case history, which we print no figures for. Whether the legal-malpractice work is a substantial part of the practice or a listed capability. We have not reviewed court records for case outcomes, we print no settlement or verdict figures, and we have no basis for judging quality of representation. A bar check is a floor, not a ranking.
